A magistrate court in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has placed Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his attorney, Aloy Ejimakor, under detention at Kuje prison.
Their involvement in Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration in Abuja led to their incarceration.
Kanuta Kanu, the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, revealed this in a post on X soon after Tuesday’s court hearing.
“Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s youngest brother, and Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lead attorney in his case, were placed under detention by the court sitting in Kuje. Kanuta Kanu said on X, “This is a plot by the legislature, executive branch, and judiciary to thwart Kanu’s trial on Thursday.”
According to prior reports, after Monday’s protest in Abuja, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his attorney Aloy Ejimakor, and ten other people were arraigned by the Nigeria Police.
Former National Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Nigeria (HRCN), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, posted the court record to this effect via X on Tuesday.
In defiance of a court order, the police accused them of violating the public peace and instigating unrest.
The paper that was sighted stated that the defendants were charged with preventing other citizens from moving freely, interfering with traffic, chanting war songs, and demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, reportedly stated that Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, among others, would face charges on Tuesday.
Hundeyin added that anyone detained during the demonstration would face charges following an investigation.
