Breaking: Police Deploy Teargas to Disperse Protesting Local Contractors

Due to the government’s reluctance to compensate them for completed work, local contractors have besieged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secretariat entrance.

Tear gas was reportedly used by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday morning to put an end to demonstrators in front of FCDA.

Remember the coffin that demonstrators set up at the gate to the Finance Ministry’s Abuja offices last week?

The All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) contractors began a nonstop protest at the ministry last Tuesday over debts due by the Federal Government, according to Daily Trust.

They claimed that the federal government was trying to force them out of business.

An association executive told Daily Trust that they brought the coffin to represent how they had been burying their members as a result of debt-related incidents.

“Even last week, we buried a member, Abdulganiyu,” he stated. This has been ongoing for a very long time. It’s also not acceptable. Due to high blood pressure, we just lost six members.
