The Kurawa hamlet in Sokoto State’s Sabon-Birni Local Government Area was allegedly attacked by armed bandits who supported infamous kingpin Bello Turji.
According to reports, the bandits broke into the Sokoto hamlet on Wednesday night, killing two locals and kidnapping eleven others.
Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist covering insecurity in northwest Nigeria, revealed the development in a post via 𝕏 on Thursday. The raid, which is the most recent in a string of violent incidents afflicting communities in Sokoto East Senatorial District, also resulted in two injuries.
Bakatsine claims that bandit gangs connected to the Bello Turji network still attack the district almost every day.
He continued by saying that as officials fight to stop the growing violence, locals are still stuck in a state of constant terror.
“SAD NEWS: Last night, armed bandits loyal to Bello Turji stormed Kurawa community in Sabon-Birni LGA of Sokoto State, killing two people,” he said. During the attack, they also kidnapped 11 people—10 women and 1 man—and injured two.
“Bandit gangs operating in the Sokoto East Senatorial District, particularly those connected to the Bello Turji network, continue to attack the district almost every day. As authorities fight to keep the violence under control, communities continue to live in a cycle of terror.
