Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s manager, has expressed praise for youthful midfielder Reggie Walsh following his good performance in the Europa Conference League semi-final second leg.
Reggie Walsh’s debut for Chelsea at the age of 16 resulted in a 1-0 victory over Djurgarden on Thursday. This makes him the youngest Chelsea player to start a European match.
Walsh’s contributions on the field were remarkable throughout the encounter. It contributed significantly to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s match-winning goal. Chelsea advanced to the final with a 5-1 aggregate score.
In his post-match interview, Maresca expanded on Walsh’s abilities, saying, “He was pleased, he was laughing, and he was not frightened at all.
“I advised him to approach the game in the same manner he exercises with us: enjoy it. You could see that he accomplished exactly that.”
Walsh’s manager applauded his confidence and maturity, pointing out how he constantly sought the ball and maintained excellent calm during play.

Maresca continued, “I really like Reggie. He embodies the type of player that will fit in well with my system and the style of play I aim to introduce. It’s incredible to witness how he handles himself on the field at the age of 16.”
He stressed Walsh’s balance between football and education, saying, “Tomorrow he has to go to school, which is crucial for his development, but there’s no doubt he has the potential to be a great player.”
Chelsea will now turn their attention to their Premier League match against Newcastle United this Saturday, where they hope to build on their previous victory and maintain their excellent form in several tournaments.
The Europa Conference League final between Chelsea and Real Betis will take place on May 28 at 8 p.m.
