Dabiri-Erewa Hails Nigerian-Born Jovan Olafioye on Induction into Canadian Football Hall of Fame

Following his admission into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025, Nigerian-born hero Jovan Olafioye has received congratulations from Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Olafioye played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for nearly ten years, during which time he established a remarkable career.

He won the Grey Cup in 2011, was selected to multiple All-Star teams, and was recognized as the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2012 during his eight years with the BC Lions.

He was one of the most admired players in Canadian football because of his leadership and consistency.

In addition to being a noteworthy personal achievement for Olafioye, this honor is a source of pride for Nigeria and the Nigerian community around the world.

In a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit on September 24, 2025, Dabiri-Erewa stated, “His induction serves as a testament to the Nigerian diaspora’s expanding influence in a variety of fields, most notably international sports.”

Olafioye’s narrative, she continued, is a testament to the tenacity and fortitude Nigerians continue to exhibit on the international scene.

She said that his achievement “further demonstrates the ability, tenacity, and resolve of Nigerians making waves around the globe.”

“By showing that dedication and hard work can lead to recognition at the highest levels of professional sports, his story will inspire young Nigerians and aspiring athletes both domestically and abroad.”
