The Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has come under fire from former presidential candidate Dele Momodu for disparaging African Democratic Congress (ADC) members.
According to reports, Baba-Ahmed called ADC coalition members “disgruntled politicians” on Wednesday when announcing his plan to run for president in 2027.
Additionally, he called some former LP members who switched to the ADC “political travelers.”
Momodu, however, compared Baba-Ahmed to a resentful, abandoned lover on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program.
The ADC chieftain stressed that politics shouldn’t be motivated by personal grievances or emotional responses, expressing surprise at Baba-Ahmed’s attacks on other politicians.
Elections are “a game of mathematics,” Momodu continued, advising politicians to collaborate with people who have established platforms and institutions that may produce outcomes at the polls.
“He has a right to say anything,” he declared. The way he disparages other politicians really surprises me.
He is free to run, but he is aware that the Labour Party has changed since the previous election.
And the reason he is upset is that he goes for his own goals even if he is aware that they are unlikely in that coalition.
“I’m not at all bothered. He feels resentment, much like a lover who has been abandoned. The previous time he ran with Peter Obi, he anticipated running again, but they shouldn’t become recurring competitors.
The only people who wouldn’t consider the bigger picture are serial competitors. The bigger picture at the moment is that, before to Datti, there was Atiku Abubakar, a visionary who chose Peter Obi in 2019 against the wishes of some governors because he viewed him as a rising star in Nigerian politics.
