Following a fire incident, Delta Airlines reportedly rerouted its Lagos-Atlanta flight to Accra on Tuesday, according to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Michael Achimugu, stated in a post on X on Thursday that the diversion happened as a result of an airplane oven fire.
He claimed that by the time the matter was settled, the crew had gone over their allotted rest period, which prevented the flight from continuing.
But on the same evening, some passengers were rescheduled on the airline’s Accra-New York trip, and this endeavor was repeated for more passengers on Wednesday night, according to Achimugu.
“At around 1200 hours today, September 25, 2025, flight DL055 LOS – ATL finally took off from Accra.”
Additionally, the director verified that Delta had canceled its Thursday arrival flight from Atlanta to Lagos.
According to him, those who arrived at the airport were given hotel accommodations, and passengers were properly informed.
He also stated that some passengers would be flown on British Airways, KLM, and Lufthansa Airlines, and that twenty-three passengers had been rebooked on Air France.
“The airline’s scheduled flight is set to depart tomorrow, September 26, 2025, at 1140 hours, with the remaining passengers on board.
“The Air France flight is scheduled to operate at 0130 hours and has not been canceled as rumored.”
“Follow-up efforts are ongoing,” Achimugu stated, wishing the passengers a safe journey.
