When Liverpool prepares to honor the late Diogo Jota during their Premier League opener against Bournemouth, his family is anticipated to be present, making for an incredibly emotional evening at Anfield.
According to reports, Diogo Jota, 28, and his younger brother, Andre Silva, 25, perished in an automobile accident in northern Spain in July 2025. The Reds are committed to honoring his life and legacy with their season’s first league game.
The homage is expected to be attended by Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, their kids, and other family members, according to Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s program notes.
Slot stated, “Given that this is the first league game we have played since we lost Diogo and Andre, we know that this will be a very emotional occasion.”
“I think Diogo’s wife, kids, and family will be there, so it’s crucial that we as a club let them know they have our undying love and support.” We are always available to them.
Every Premier League stadium, including Anfield, will hold a minute’s silence prior to kickoff. Black armbands will be worn by Liverpool players, while pictures and tributes honoring Jota and his brother will be shown on large screens. During the pause, supporters will unveil a unique mosaic in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and the Kop.
The Reds will honor the shirt number Jota wore when the team won their record-tying 20th league title by wearing a “Forever 20” badge during the season as a permanent homage. His family was consulted before the number 20 shirt was retired.
Before their game against Manchester City on Saturday, Jota’s former team Wolves will also pay their respects.
