Eight Bandits Killed in Gun Battle with Zamfara Police
Eight bandits were killed by Zamfara State security personnel after a bloody gunfight in Fegin Kanawa village, Wonaka District, Gusau Local Government Area.
When a combined team of police officers and members of the Fegin Mahe village’s Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) responded to intelligence information of an imminent attack, the altercation broke out on Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Zagazola Makama said that the bandits set up strategic positions and ambushed the crew as they approached the area.
Eight of the attackers were killed by the security personnel’s superior force back fire, while a few others were injured and ran into surrounding bushes.
Inspector Tasi’u Lawali of the 42 Police Mobile Force, Gusau, was shot in the mouth and hand during the encounter.
He is said to be in stable condition after being quickly transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Gusau.
Police have stepped up bush-combing efforts in the wake of the incident to find the escaping suspects.
