Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has refuted claims that the South will elect the nation’s president in 2027.
El-Rufai reportedly stated in a post via 𝕏 by ADC News (@AdcNews_), “I refused to contest in 2027 because it is the turn of the South,” according to an online newspaper. By 2031, you will be able to see my activities.
El-Rufai, however, called the newspaper “fake news” in a statement released on Monday, adding that he did not specify which part of the nation should produce the president in 2027.
The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister claims that the statement attributed to him was never posted on social media or in an interview.
“My attention has been drawn to a trending fake news item alleging that I specified which region of the country should produce the president in 2027,” the message states.
Even though this claim has gone widespread, it is false. I never mentioned it in any of my speeches, interviews, or statements on social media. I own my own verifiable social media accounts where I express my thoughts and beliefs.
“I would like to repeat that my opinions cannot be ascribed to me unless I specifically stated them in interviews with reputable media outlets or on my social media accounts. Additionally, it is incorrect and inappropriate to claim credit for opinion pieces written by other authors that I may share on my usernames in order to contribute to the national dialogue. As we deal with both careless politicking and the intentional abuse of social media to disseminate false information, these warnings are essential.
