An attempted kidnapping in Guto Village, a border village in Abuja’s Bwari Area Council, was stopped on Thursday, according to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
An estimated thirty gunmen reportedly invaded the neighborhood early in the morning and tried to break into a home before security personnel could reach.
Officers from the IGP Special Intervention Squad and the Bwari Division Surveillance Team were sent to the location right away, according to a statement from FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh.
According to Adeh, a gunfight broke out when the armed individuals saw the police units and began fire.
The statement claims that during the gunfight, two of the attackers were killed and the others fled into surrounding bushes.
The statement said in part, “In the early hours of Wednesday, November 20, 2025, the FCT Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council.”
The Command received a distress call at approximately 1:10 a.m. stating that approximately thirty heavily armed criminals had broken into the community with the intention of kidnapping a resident and his family.
Operatives from the IGP Special Intervention Squad and the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team mobilized to the scene in a prompt and well-coordinated manner.
The attackers, who had already made an effort to break into the targeted home, opened fire when they saw the responding police teams. A ferocious gunfight broke out as the brave officers used superior weaponry and precision to confront the attackers. The remaining offenders ran into the nearby bushes and mountainous area after two of them were neutralized.
One police officer was shot during the altercation, according to Adeh, and was sent to Bwari General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Unfortunately, one police officer was shot and killed during the exchange. He was taken to Bwari General Hospital, where a medical professional confirmed his death,” she stated. This loss is greatly regretted by the Command.
“CP Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, commends the operatives’ extraordinary bravery, prompt responsiveness, and professionalism throughout the operation.
He describes the dead officer as a brave hero who gave his life in the line of duty and offers his family, coworkers, and loved ones his sincere sympathies. The CP further guarantees that the Command will keep stepping up its efforts to remove criminal elements from the FCT.
