Femi Falana, a Nigerian lawyer and activist, has suggested that the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), be settled out of court.
During a visit to Governor Alex Otti, he told reporters that the agitator’s case should be handled outside of court because it is a political issue.
He claimed that there should be no reason why the same strategy cannot be used in Kanu’s case if the government allows for dialogue with robbers.
“I cannot comment on pending proceedings,” he stated. Do you get me? The case was heard in court today (Wednesday), as you mentioned, but I think it’s an issue best resolved out of court.
It’s a political case in my opinion. Furthermore, there can be no excuse for not having the issue politically resolved if certain governments are dealing with bandits or other criminal forces.
Falana praised Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s numerous historic accomplishments during his brief two years and a few months in office.
The attorney said that he had chosen to see the governor prior to his court appearance since he was in the state defending a client.
Falana commended Otti for building quality roads, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure around the state, claiming to have been familiar with Abia State politics since 1999.
The attorney claimed to have observed more indications of sound governance in the state than ever before.
