Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, the anchor for ARISE News, died as a result of the Nigerian police’s incompetence, according to new information that surfaced online.
According to reports, on September 29, 2025, Sommie, as she is affectionately known, was killed in an armed robbery at her home in Katampe, Abuja.
Speaking about the incident, family friend Kaanayo Nwachukwu denied early allegations that the 29-year-old presenter was attacked personally by the armed robbers, according to Sahara Reporters.
According to Nwachukwu, the armed bandits broke into the six-unit apartment building where Sommie resided, robbing people of their possessions as they went from apartment to apartment.
According to Nwachukwu, Sommie tried to flee before the robbers arrived at her apartment because she was afraid of the noise from the apartments next door.
He emphasized that Sommie was still alive when the police finally arrived, stating that the dead had leaped out of her window and suffered serious injuries from the fall.
“Sommie lived in a block of six apartments in the FCT suburb of Katampe,” Nwachukwu stated.

When they did, Sommie was still alive. Sommie repeatedly pleaded with the police to drive her to the hospital so she could receive emergency medical attention, but they claimed they were out of fuel for their car.
Since her parents reside in Port Harcourt, Sommie was able to phone her mother’s best friend, who lives nearby in Abuja. She had gone cold and was dead before the woman could reach her.

Nwachukwu called the incident a failure of the Nigerian system and said it was preventable.
