Fuel Subsidy Removal: FG Gives States N2 Trillion Monthly – Wike Reveals

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), revealed on Thursday that the federal government currently provides ₦2 trillion each month to the states.

He revealed the information while giving a speech in Abuja at the 2025 Innovate Africa Conference.

The Minister claimed that since the fuel subsidy was eliminated, states may now split ₦2 trillion each month.

“The federation will receive 500 billion naira in a month,” he stated. Not at all. Never once did I have more than 10 or 15 billion per month.

States share at least $2 trillion per month as of right now. For what reason? due to the fuel subsidy being eliminated.

Conditions have started to stabilize, Wike said, despite early public outrage over the elimination of fuel subsidies.

You may not be correct, but you have to make a choice, and this current government is doing just that, he said.

People tend to forget where we were the day before. I am unsure of the number of people who will be able to make the decision when Mr. President decides to eliminate the fuel subsidy. Such a brave, tough choice. However, we had to make some sacrifices, and some of us began to cry, “How can you remove fuel subsidy?” People are suffering in large numbers.

“But by God’s grace, he made a very tough choice that led to many price increases for fuel and other items, and now things are stabilizing.”
