For the 2025–2026 academic year, 6,356 students enrolled at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, marking the institution’s largest student intake in almost forty years.
Olasunkanmi Olajide, the Directorate of Public Relations’ acting head, revealed this in a statement provided to our correspondent on Thursday.
The Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building hosted both the matriculation and the university’s 13th Commencement Lecture.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde called the record admission a significant turning point in FUNAAB’s 38-year existence.
While advising the newcomers to maintain discipline, dress appropriately, maintain at least 70% attendance in class, and rigorously adhere to the institution’s norms, Prof. Kehinde expressed joy at the increased confidence of parents and prospective students in the university.
“FUNAAB remains a training ground for future leaders,” the VC stated. As a result, students must maintain discipline, dress appropriately, attend classes at least 70% of the time, and strictly follow the norms set forth by the university.
Prof. Kehinde reiterated the university’s zero tolerance policy for wrongdoing and emphasized that responsible leadership and open communication are the only ways that Student Union involvement on campus is guided.
The students were given the assurance that their rights would be upheld by the vice chancellor.
Prof. Subuola Fasoyiro of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University, gave the commencement lecture, “Future Leaders of Character in Agriculture: Building Capacity Today for National and Global Impact Tomorrow.” He urged the students to develop competence, capacity, and character as the cornerstones of effective leadership.
Prof. Fasoyiro emphasized vision, strategic thinking, boldness, emotional intelligence, integrity, teamwork, and resilience as the attributes needed to shape the future.
Additionally, she noted that kids must embrace these attributes in order to have a better future: clarity, commitment, capability, character, consistency, and contribution.
Professor Fasoyiro said, “As students, you must position yourself through discipline and continuous learning because the future is predictable.” You will be better able to maintain your reputation if you take care of your character.
