Governor Alia Reshuffles Education Sector, Names Terna Francis And Prof. Kenen As New Heads
Dr. Terna Francis has been appointed as the first Executive Secretary of the recently formed Benue Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Tersoo Kula, the governor’s chief press secretary, released a statement on Tuesday stating that the appointment is effective immediately.
After the Benue State House of Assembly recently passed a statute combining the now-defunct Benue State Examinations body with the old Bureau for Education Quality Assurance, the new body was established.
According to the statement, the goal of the merger is to boost the education industry and guarantee that Benue children receive a comprehensive, competitive, and high-quality education that will enable them to succeed anywhere in the world.
In addition to congratulating Dr. Francis on his appointment, Governor Alia urged him to use his expertise, honesty, and creativity to reposition the state’s quality assurance and education assessment systems.
Noting that education continues to be a primary priority for his administration, he also tasked the incoming Executive Secretary with upholding excellence, openness, and accountability in the performance of his duties.
The governor added that the board must act as a catalyst for discipline, quality standards, and ongoing development at all state educational levels.
In a different event, Prof. Emmanuel Kenen was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University in Makurdi with Alia’s approval.
“In accordance with the provisions of the law establishing the University as contained in Gazette No. 3, Vol. 45, Part III, 16 (11 & 12),” the statement stated, “the governor, who is the visitor to the state-owned institution, made the appointment following the recommendation of the Governing Council of the university, which nominated Prof. Kenen to serve in an acting capacity for a period of no more than six (6) months.”
Alia also tasked the incoming acting VC with safeguarding the university’s fundamental principles of moral rectitude, excellence, discipline, and innovation.
He stated that in order to produce graduates who would significantly contribute to the advancement of Benue State and Nigeria as a whole, the institution must continue to be a hub for knowledge and character development.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, staff welfare, research development, and high academic standards in order to prepare the state’s postsecondary education for global competitiveness.
With four faculties—Arts, Education, Science, and Social Sciences—MOAUM, originally known as Benue State University, was founded in 1991 and started classes in the 1992–1993 school year.
