Mohammed Umaru Bago, the governor of Niger State, has presented the state House of Assembly for 2026 with a N1.3 trillion appropriations bill known as the “Budget of Consolidation.”
The budget allots N761 billion for major projects and N270 billion for ongoing expenses.
Recurring expenditures were anticipated to be over N270 billion (26.19%) and capital expenditures to be over N761 billion (73.81%).
According to Bago, money from statutory allocation, value-added tax (VAT), domestically generated revenue, additional FAAC receipts, IGR, capital receipts, grants, and loans are anticipated to finance the budget.
“The budget will build on past gains while addressing the pressing needs of the present, especially as the state navigates the challenges of a rapidly evolving global economy,” he said.
According to his sectoral analysis of the 2026 budget, the transportation sector received the lowest estimate of more than N1 billion, while the economic sector received the largest allocation of over N510 billion.
The governor stated that “government interventions in the 2026 fiscal year will focus on strategic priority areas such as wealth and job creation, agricultural transformation, strengthening the health sector, road infrastructure consolidation, and completion of inherited water and electricity projects.”
The education sector’s improvement, increased internal revenue production, rigorous adherence to due process, state-owned media’s digital revolution, the consolidation of peace and security, and development partnerships are some others.
“The 2026 Budget is anchored on fiscal discipline, strategic investment, and targeted interventions aimed at expanding economic opportunities for our citizens,” said Bago. The budget is also intended to finish all of the state’s ongoing infrastructure projects.
“The 2026 budget builds on our prior successes while addressing the urgent demands of today, reflecting the confidence our citizens have placed in us. Over the past two years, our administration has managed resources carefully, pursued growth-oriented policies, and produced noticeable results despite inflationary challenges and changing revenues.
The plan is based on focused interventions, strategic investment, and budgetary restraint. The 2026 Budget aims to raise everyone’s standard of living and increase opportunities. Allow me to briefly discuss the performance and accomplishments of the 2025 budget in accordance with our dedication to accountability and transparency before I outline this budget.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the Speaker, Barr Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, and other members of the 10th State House of Assembly for their continued collaboration and patriotism toward the advancement of Niger State in order to guarantee ongoing governance strengthening, expedite service delivery, and bolster citizens’ faith in the democratic process.
