Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa has assured that the Nigeria Polytechnic Games will not be affected by the Federal Government’s aim to unify university degrees with Higher National Diplomas granted by polytechnics.
The 22nd Nigeria Polytechnic Games, with the theme “Ijakadi 2025,” opened at the Federal Polytechnic in Offa, Kwara State. Alausa stressed that the games will go ahead as scheduled, even while the government works to resolve the conflict between HNDs and university degrees.
The Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Polytechnic and Allied Education, Dr. Ejeh Usman, spoke on behalf of the minister, who said, “NIPOGA will continue, despite the government’s efforts to streamline the education sector.” We are dedicated to keeping polytechnics a part of our instructional system.
He added, “In support of a broader dual mandate for these institutions, polytechnics interested in offering degree programs can apply for accreditation from the National Universities Commission and the National Board for Technical Education.”

Confirming that the Ministry completely supports the event, Dr. Usman commented on the NIPOGA’s successful organizing in Offa. In his message, the minister encourages all participating polytechnics, schools, and rectors. Since education and games are complementary, it is imperative that sports be supported in the classroom.
Offa, Kadiri Kamoru, rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, emphasized the great accomplishments of the university, particularly obtaining the rights to host the 22nd NIPOGA Games for the first time in more than thirty years.
Expressing gratitude to stakeholders for their leadership and support, he described the event as historic, with over 5,000 participants across 12 sports and national TV coverage to highlight Nigeria’s athletic prowess.
The significance of the athletic event in fostering solidarity among Nigerian youth was also emphasized by Senator Lola Ashiru, who represents the Kwara South Senatorial District, and Alhaji Moshood Ojikutu, the Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa’s Governing Council.
