Actor Emeka Okoye of Nollywood has revealed that he has lost a number of acting opportunities due to his physical size.
The actor, who started his career in 1999, claimed that due of his plump looks, producers frequently passed him up for some roles.
In an interview with Saturday Sun, he clarified that this had occurred several times.
He claimed that when he was thinner, some filmmakers rejected him because they thought he was too little for their ideal roles.
Okoye stated that despite these difficulties, he is nevertheless appreciative of the duties he has been assigned and happy with his professional progress.
The star of To Kill a Monkey also talked about his experience in Nollywood, remembering how he began with the film Prophet of Darkness in Asaba and encountered numerous difficulties along the road.
He clarified that despite obstacles, he was able to stay focused because of his strong faith and commitment.
Okoye went on to say that his acting decisions are influenced by his covenant with God, which is why he stays away from roles that go against his religious convictions or deep kissing sequences.
The Papa Pepe star expressed gratitude for life and called 2025 one of his most rewarding years to date after overcoming a health scare earlier in the year.
“Yes, I have lost movie roles multiple times due to my appearance,” he stated. Ironically, I lost roles when I was thinner because people thought I was too little. However, I’m happy and appreciative of every chance. God has always provided the direction.
“I have declined assignments that violate my bond with God since I began performing in 1999. I don’t kiss deeply or tongue-to-tongue, but I perform “safe kissing” scenes like the one in Ms. Counselor.
“I had good, bad, and ugly experiences in my early years, but I never let the difficulties stop me. I continued to follow my calling. A few weeks later, I received a call informing me that Madam Kemi had chosen me for a Netflix original part. I let out a cry, dropped to my knees, and started praising.
