Maxwell Opara, a human rights attorney, has praised the Southeast for clearing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of charges of terrorism and criminality.
Nnamdi Kanu was found guilty on all seven charges of terrorism brought against him, and Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, reportedly sentenced him to life in prison on Thursday.
Opara, however, maintained that Kanu is not a terrorist as is being portrayed in an appearance on Friday’s Morning Show on Arise Television.
He claims that Nnamdi Kanu has experienced the greatest injustice on the planet.
“People in the Southeast are aware that Nnamdi Kanu is neither a criminal nor a terrorist,” he declared. For that, I would want to commend them.
In order for the Court of Appeal to overturn this ruling, I would like to urge all well-meaning Nigerians to band together and get involved.
“I must inform you that yesterday, when the verdict was delivered, one of the congressmen in America, where our delegates were meeting with the US Congress, brought up this matter and emphasized the kind of injustice Nnamdi Kanu has endured at the hands of Nigeria, as if the man were a Nigerian.
Thus, these individuals sometimes learn more than you do throughout our conversations. Of all the people on the planet, Nnamdi Kanu has endured the most injustice.
“The Federal Government, which is prosecuting him, went to his home without warning and killed 38 people while he was having fun.”
