The arrest of a suspect connected to the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old child in the Iyana Ipaja area has been verified by the Lagos State Government.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, or DSVA, said in a statement released Thursday through its official X handle that it is working with the Nigeria Police Force to guarantee a comprehensive investigation and prosecution, promising that justice will be sought in a case that has aroused a great deal of public concern.
“The disturbing incident of sexual abuse involving a 12-year-old girl in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State has understandably garnered significant public attention, and we are deeply concerned about it,” said DSVA.
The Ayobo Police Station is presently housing the accused offender, whose identity has not been revealed.
The issue has been officially handed to DVSA’s Gender Desk Unit for a comprehensive investigation, the agency confirmed.

Investigations are currently being conducted in close coordination with the Police Force by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which is actively involved in this matter. The suspected offender is presently being held at the Ayobo Police Station, and the case has been forwarded to the Gender Desk Unit,” the organization verified.
The government is actively working with the survivor’s family, providing all-encompassing support that includes both medical and psychological care, according to DSVA.
To guarantee that she receives thorough and prompt psychosocial support, the survivor has been sent to the Ipaja Family Support Unit and Psychosocial Services. Additionally, medical care has been given,” the agency stated.

“The Lagos State Government reaffirms its unwavering commitment to securing justice for survivors of sexual violence and ensuring that perpetrators are held fully accountable under the law,” it added, further reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy against sexual violence.
