Nigeria’s 65th anniversary of independence will be commemorated by a public holiday on wednesday, October 1, 2025, according to the Federal Government.
The official announcement of the vacation on behalf of President Bola Tinubu’s administration is anticipated to be made by Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, according to reports.
At 7:00 a.m. on October 1, President Tinubu will give a nationwide broadcast as part of the festivities. The speech is anticipated to highlight the reform program of his administration and offer a reflection on the democratic journey of the nation since its independence in 1960.
The annual Independence anniversary parade will be held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja later this morning at 10:00 a.m., with government officials, diplomatic corps members, and invited visitors in attendance.
Under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” the Presidency had previously revealed the full schedule of events.
At the National Christian Center in Abuja, an interdenominational church service was conducted on Sunday, September 28.
The focus moved to citizen involvement on Monday, September 29, when a global news conference was held at the National news Center, Radio House, Abuja.
When the National Values Charter (NVC) is unveiled and the National Campus Debate culminates at the State House Conference Centre on Friday, October 3, the festivities will come to an end.
