INEC Advises Amupitan: Concentrate on Upcoming Elections Instead of Probing Past

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the recently confirmed chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been told by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Monday Ubani to concentrate on the next elections rather than questioning the previous government.

While answering questions during a monitored appearance on Arise Television on Friday, Ubani offered this counsel.

His counsel was given just twenty-four hours after Prof. Amupitan was formally confirmed as the significant head of Nigeria’s election board.

Even if looking back has its advantages, the new INEC leadership shouldn’t make it their main priority.

“Restoring Nigerians’ faith in the institution should be the Chairman’s first concern, especially with the Anambra election approaching.

This election is going to be a critical litmus test. Prof. Amupitan is highly qualified and has the credentials needed to be successful academically.

But, he acknowledged, “his inexperience in managing such a significant responsibility might be a slight disadvantage.”
