Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, have received certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), thereby confirming their reelection.
Two days after they were proclaimed winners, Kenneth Ikeagu, the Supervising INEC National Commissioner for the Anambra governorship race, reportedly gave the certificates to the two on Tuesday in Awka.
Ikeagu stated that the Commission was operating in accordance with the Electoral Act’s stipulations while presenting the certificates.
“We are here to present the certificates of return to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Anambra State, following their successful outing during the state governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025,” he said.
According to Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, each candidate who has been properly returned by the returning officer under the Act must get a certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission within 14 days.
“As the Supervising National Electoral Commissioner of the Anambra State governorship election, I have the honor and privilege of presenting the certificates of return to the Governor and the Deputy Governor-elect in accordance with this statutory provision.”
In all 21 LGAs, Soludo prevails.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Soludo was proclaimed the winner of the election on November 8 on Sunday.
Prof. Edoba Omoregie of the University of Benin, the Returning Officer, declared that Soludo received 422,664 votes to defeat Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress candidate, who received 99,445 votes.
Paul Chukwuma, a candidate for the Young Progressives Party, received 37,753 votes, placing him third. According to INEC, 16 candidates took part in the survey.
For the certificate presenting ceremony, the governor and his deputy traveled to the INEC state offices in Awka with their spouses.
