Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, has accused governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform of obstructing his bid to run for the party’s national presidency.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Lamido made the accusation, claiming that the governors disregarded a court order directing the party to permit him to run and failed to provide him with a nomination form.
He claimed that Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and head of the PDP Governors’ Forum, personally phoned him and requested his resignation because the governors thought he would be too independent if elected chairman.
Lamido claims that Bauchi’s governor, Bala, called and stated, “My older brother, you are stronger than us.” We won’t be able to influence you if we choose you chairman.

He claimed that in response, he reminded the governor of the lengthy history of the party.
“You weren’t there when PDP was formed,” I told him. “One person shouldn’t control the party with history,” he continued.
Lamido clarified that even after obtaining a court ruling for the PDP to permit him to run, the governors continued to disobey it and instead launched an appeal.

Additionally, he disapproved of the leadership that resulted from the most recent convention, in which Tanimu Turaki was appointed national chairman.
He called the entire procedure “unacceptable.”
He declared, “That convention is void.”
Senior stakeholders, like as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, were urged by the former governor to step in and assist in reorganizing the PDP.
He stated that in order to support Nigeria’s democracy and progress, the party must revert to its original principles.
