John Nwosu, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election, has withdrawn from the contest.
Using the Supreme Court’s decision to remove Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman as justification, Nwosu reportedly pulled out of Saturday’s primary election.
As he announced his exit from the contest, Nwosu also accused national and state party leaders in charge of overseeing the primary poll of engaging in irregularities.
“It is evident that the Labour Party officials at the national and state levels who were responsible for conducting the governorship primary election for Anambra State violated the provisions of our beloved Labour Party’s Constitution as well as INEC guidelines and regulations after a thorough examination of all the activities, illegalities, and indecent conduct,” he said.
Furthermore, according to Nwosu, the list of primary delegates was only posted eight hours prior to the primary election and was changed multiple times.

It is clear and verifiable that no congress of delegates was held in any of Anambra State’s 21 LGAs, despite the fact that a list of said delegates surfaced. According to election standards, that list was only posted at the party headquarters eight hours prior to the primary’s planned start time and was changed multiple times, he said.
He went on to say that his Christian beliefs and ideals would prevent him from running in the primary.
“I firmly believe that my involvement in the primary will validate unlawful activity, undermine due process, and betray my moral character, Christian values, and principles,” he said.
In addition to thanking his followers in Anambra State and elsewhere for their understanding, he restated his resolve to pursue political goals in the future through legitimate, open, and equitable channels.
