Following his incredible hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 5-0 thumping of Kairat Almaty on Wednesday, Kylian Mbappe has risen to the top of the UEFA Champions League scoring chart.
With five goals in the current Champions League campaign, the France captain has had a stellar start to life in Madrid. In the Spanish powerhouses’ 2-1 victory against Marseille last month, he had already scored twice.
Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, who has four goals after scoring in both of his team’s opening games, is one goal ahead of the 26-year-old. Behind them, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, Anthony Gordon of Newcastle, and Jonathan Burkardt of Frankfurt are all tied with three goals apiece.
After winning their first two group games, Real Madrid is now tied for sixth place with Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and Qarabag. Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund complete the top eight.
English powerhouses Liverpool and Chelsea, who are currently in 17th and 18th position, respectively, are having trouble finding their rhythm. Barcelona, meanwhile, has had a poor start and is currently in 16th place. Athletic Bilbao, Ajax, and Kairat Almaty are the three teams at the bottom of the table.
