Dele Momodu, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has urged the federal government to take President Donald Trump’s warning seriously.
Remember that last Saturday, just one day after cautioning that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in the most populous country in Africa, Trump ordered the Pentagon to draft a potential strike strategy in Nigeria.
Since then, the US President has reaffirmed his threat to use force in Nigeria in response to reports of Christian deaths.
Speaking about the development, Momodu said that Trump believes the Nigerian administration is not prepared or serious enough to deal with the country’s growing insecurity.
During a Friday appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, he made the submission.
The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) recommended that the government take decisive action in this matter.
Momodu, meantime, has voiced worry for President Bola Tinubu with Trump’s recent warning.
Momodu claims that he sympathized with Tinubu since this is not the ideal time for him to serve as president of Nigeria.
“The president needs to get people who are capable of speaking and will be heard,” he stated. Not every one of these politicians. The president is an excellent politician. He has the power to force all of Nigeria’s governors to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), but we are already past that point.
“Two weeks ago, President Tinubu would have answered, ‘No, it’s not possible,’ if someone had informed him that he would be in this dangerous scenario.
“I must admit that I felt sorry for him when I watched him speak last night because this is not the ideal time to be the president of Nigeria. For himself, his team, and all of us in Nigeria, he now needs to put on the thinking cap.
