Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has come under fire from Nigerian artist Debo Adedayo, better known by his stage name Mr. Macaroni, for her response to Fuji musician Kwam1’s apology for an airport disturbance.
According to accounts, Dabiri-Erewa responded to the incident by accepting the apology, which Macaroni called intolerable and setting a risky precedent.
According to the skitmaker, her position implied that misconduct could be justified with a straightforward explanation and no actual repercussions.
Macaroni insisted that those who degraded her be prosecuted, drawing a comparison between the case and the quick incarceration of a woman engaged in a recent Ibom Air incident.
He claimed that the difference in the two cases’ handlings demonstrated that Nigeria’s legal system was unfair.
He insisted on charging those responsible for blocking the plane or posting the woman’s nudity online.
Additionally, Macaroni urged Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labor, to take legal action and go beyond remarks made on social media.
He asked why some people were swiftly imprisoned for less serious offenses while there seemed to be no penalty for blocking an airplane’s flight.
He said that justice in Nigeria seems to rely on who was involved in the case and accused the authorities of administering the law unfairly.
“I just want to say that this is highly reprehensible,” he wrote. You are not deserving of a public position. With this tweet, you have created a very risky precedent. You have reassured Nigerians that committing a crime is OK and that you may apologize to avoid punishment.
