₦20 million has been awarded by the Department of State Services (DSS) to a Sokoto businessman who was accidentally shot during a security operation.
The secret police also asked the victim to attend their hospital in Abuja as part of their ongoing commitment to offering free medical care.
In mid-March, Tosin Ajayi, the Director-General of the DSS, approved the payment of ₦10 million in damages that had been granted to the businessman by a court six years earlier, according toreports.
A further ₦10 million was given to the businessman by the DSS DG to make up for the missed time, for a total of ₦20 million.
Ajayi gave the DSS hospital instructions at that time to formally include the businessman in the Services’ medical care system, enabling him to get free medical care whenever he wanted.
The security industry insider told Vanguard that the businessman had been at the hospital “a few days ago and has been receiving complimentary medical tests and treatment from the hospital’s top physicians.”

In accordance with the DG’s order, the man has been in the VIP ward, which is naturally air-conditioned, he stated.

The businessman, accompanied by his lawyer Idris Akibu, filed a petition in a Federal High Court in Bauchi in 2018, two years after the occurrence.
The court, presided over by Justice Muhammad Shittu Abubakar, ordered the DSS to pay ₦10 million in damages to the wounded businessman in light of the case with suit number FHC/J/CS/18/2018.
