A program to take part in the big protest known as “Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” which is set for October 20, 2025, has been released by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
NANS President Atiku Isah revealed this in a statement on Monday.
The statement claims that Isah led the NANS executive meeting where a decision was made to organize students for the demonstration.
According to NANS, the mobilization is a component of the broader call for civil rights, justice, and democratic accountability in Nigeria.
The statement read, “The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) hereby calls on all Nigerian students to participate in the ‘Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’ nationwide protest scheduled to be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, in accordance with the resolution reached at the recent executive meeting of NANS, which was chaired by the National President, Comrade Atiku Isah.
Before traveling to Abuja, students are expected to gather at specified zonal sites to guarantee efficient coordination and participation throughout the nation:
South West Zone: On Sunday, October 19, 2025, students are expected to gather in Ekiti State before leaving for Abuja.
“South East Zone: Enugu is where all students are expected to assemble.
“South-South Zone: Edo State is the point of convergence.”
Students are expected to gather in Bauchi State in the North East Zone.
“North West Zone: Kano State serves as the meeting location, and
Students will congregate at Lokoja, Kogi State, in the North Central Zone.
Ten (10) buses will be assigned to each zone for efficient transit. The national leadership will convey specific trip plans and further arrangements directly to the respective presidents of the Students’ Union Governments (SUGs).
The common call for justice, civil rights, and democratic accountability includes this mobilization. As students, we reaffirm our commitment to peacefully advocating for what is right and proclaim that freedom is attained via struggle.
The scheduled demonstration by the students coincides with the closure of government-owned universities in Nigeria since Monday as a result of the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ strike.
The development follows the announcement by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore on October 20, 2025, of a protest march to the Presidential Villa demanding the release of Indigenous People of Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Since his re-arrest in Kenya in June 2021, Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services.
According to the DAILY POST, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged on multiple occasions to free Kanu.
