In honor of seven decades of bravery, tenacity, and service since the first group of female officers were recruited in 1955, the Nigeria Police Force has announced preparations to celebrate 70 years of women in police.
The event, which is set to take place from December 3 to 4, 2025, will bring together serving and retired female officers along with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
The achievement “underscores the vital role of women in strengthening law enforcement and fostering community trust across the nation,” according to the statement.
The IGP also noted that female officers’ “dedication and compassion have continued to be integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria,” praising their vital contributions to the Force’s operational efficacy and public perception.
According to the statement, “women of the Nigeria Police Force have distinguished themselves over the past seven decades in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and command leadership.” “They have redefined policing with compassion and purpose and have exemplified integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation.”
A national lecture, a historical display, interactive panel discussions, and an outreach program are among the events planned for the occasion.
The commemoration, according to the Force, demonstrates the IGP’s dedication to advancing professionalism, inclusivity, and ongoing capacity building for women in law enforcement.
The statement went on, “The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation.”
