Iwejuo emphasized that if VeryDarkMan’s basic rights were infringed upon during the arrest, a lawsuit might result.
Joyce Iwejuo, a Nigerian lawyer, has voiced her opinion about the recent arrest of social media critic VeryDarkMan at an Abuja GTBank facility by EFCC agents.
Iwejuo said in a video posted on TikTok by @de_monarch1 that if it is established that the influencer’s basic rights were violated during the arrest, he may be able to sue for significant damages and possibly make a fortune from the conclusion of the case.
She also mentioned pertinent legal safeguards, emphasizing that any unauthorized detention has major legal ramifications for the relevant authorities.
The law is on VDM’s side if his rights were actually violated, she added, adding that GTBank and the EFCC might turn him into a billionaire. You want to make an arrest, and as the EFCC, you have the right to do so. Did he receive an invitation but not show up? First issue.
Question 2: Did GTBank have the authority to hold Verydarkman in custody? If so, they are not held accountable. If not, Verydarkman may file a false imprisonment lawsuit against GTBank, and if the court finds in his favor, they will reimburse him for his losses. It has also been said that he was taken away with his eyes shut. Why? That is a serious breach of a person’s fundamental right. Make an arrest if that is your intention. But follow the guidelines set forth by the law.

Going forward, did you provide him written notice of his arrest when you arrived to make the arrest? Section 35 of our constitution stipulates that an individual shall be informed in writing of the grounds for their arrest within twenty-four hours. The EFCC can make an arrest, but they are not allowed to take any action that is not within their authority. No, blindfolding. That kind of whisking someone away. No. It’s really depressing.
