Lai Mohammed, the former minister of information, has rejected claims that Nigeria is moving toward becoming a one-party state in light of the recent large-scale political defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He claims that because the current situation is not the first time Nigeria has seen a large-scale transfer of politicians from one party to another, Nigerians are lousy history students.
Mohammed reportedly made the submission during his speech at Achievers University’s convocation address on Friday in Ondo State.
Fears of a one-party state are utterly false, according to the former Minsiter.
“Nigerians don’t learn history very well. We have already witnessed widespread shifts between political parties. It is a component of development and democracy, he stated.
As previously reported, the former Information Minister emphasized that he purposefully avoided the spotlight while reaffirming his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Having been at the forefront of government operations in the past, he continued, “I fully support the current administration, but whatever needs to be done now, he passes it through the back doors.”
“I am an ardent supporter of the APC.
“I support this administration wholeheartedly. On the front lines, however, I have fulfilled my task. I’ll use the rear channels for whatever I need to do right now.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to be the longest-serving minister in this nation’s history, having served for eight years,” he remarked.
