After Adebayo Adelabu, the ministry of power, intervened, the Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) halted their planned industrial action.
The NUEE ordered its members nationwide to cease their services on September 25.
However, after reaching a consensus at an emergency conference called by the government in Abuja, the group called off the strike on Thursday.
The National Independent System Operator (NISO), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and representatives from the ministry of labor attended the conference.
The parties agreed to study a committee report on October 6 and 7 for potential implementation within the month, and they signed a memorandum of agreement (MoU) at the conclusion of the meeting.
To “evaluate the financial implication of the report and prepare an implementation plan to be discussed with the minister and the unions,” the TCN and NISO would meet, according to the paper.
The MoU further required that no employee be punished for taking part in the action, and it directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to expedite the review of prices for the TCN and the NISO to support the process.
The union decided to “suspend their action to allow these resolutions to be activated” in accordance with the agreement struck.
