The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been challenged by Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni to carry out President Bola Tinubu’s order to remove the police escorts that accompany the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu.
In reaction to a widely shared video in which Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka expressed concern over the size of Seyi’s security detail, Oseni issued the challenge during the Morning Show on Arise TV.
In response to Soyinka’s story of seeing what he called a “battalion” of heavily armed security guards with Seyi Tinubu at a hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos, Rufai claimed the incident revealed a double standard in the way Tinubu’s order to remove police from VIP duties was enforced.
During the live broadcast, Rufai firmly stated, “Them nor born anybody well to remove police protection from Seyi Tinubu.”
Surprised by the statement, co-anchor Dr. Reuben Abati questioned, “Even the IGP, the Inspector General of Police?” “Them no born am well,” was Rufai’s reply.
In the widely shared video, Soyinka described how the sheer number of armed men inside the hotel initially made him believe that a movie was being filmed there.
“There was almost an entire battalion occupying the ground of the hotel in Ikoyi,” stated Soyinka.
“I couldn’t believe what I was told when I asked who the young man was. It seems that he travels with his unit in this manner.
