A tragedy occurred in Zaria, Kaduna State, when alleged attackers killed Hadiza Musa, the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, while attempting to take her cell phone.
She had visited a hairdresser and an Islamic chemist in Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada, Zaria, and was on her way home on Saturday night when the event reportedly happened.
Her husband Hamza Ibrahim Idris, who works in Abuja, verified the development to Daily Trust, stating that he last spoke with her at approximately 6 p.m. after she left the drugstore.
Our final call was when she left the pharmacist after we had transferred her some money. I was unable to contact her after that. Idris recounted, “Believing her phone battery had died, I continued calling until the next morning.”
Around 6:30 p.m., Idris said, his wife had gotten on a commercial motorcycle when she was accosted by a group of people.
Her hands were pinched, indicating that someone had tried to get the phone by forcing them. They also gave her a severe blow to the head, causing her to bleed heavily, which I believe caused her death,” he claimed.
The attackers took away her phone and left her by the side of the road near Mallawa Eid area in Tudun Wada after she fell into a coma, he explained.
Before being sent to ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika, where medical professionals certified her death, a kind stranger who had discovered her hurried her to a neighboring clinic.
Idris further disclosed that the tragedy happened just three months after Hadiza’s sister, whose three adopted children she had raised, passed away.
His words were filled with sorrow: “She now left behind three of her own children and the three she adopted.”
The late nurse was a committed professional, according to Abdulkadir Balele Wali, the hospital secretary.
As the Maternity Unit’s Deputy Head, she had been working till late Friday. She was diligent, professional, and devoted to saving lives. The entire hospital is very saddened by her passing,” Wali remarked.
