Kemi Adeosun, the former minister of finance, claimed that “powerful enemies” were the reason behind her resignation from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
She claims that these strong adversaries used the dispute surrounding her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate to force her to resign from her position.
Adeosun reportedly revealed the information in an interview with Channels Television, which is set to air on Friday. The station’s news broadcast on Thursday included a clip from the Inside Sources show.
Remember that Adeosun quit in 2018 after it was claimed that she had presented a fake NYSC certificate as part of her qualifications.
In the interview, the former finance minister said that the Buhari-led government’s internal opposition used the scandal to compel her resignation.
“I don’t find it confusing that I had strong adversaries who thought I had a chance. “Let’s get rid of her,” she declared.
Adeosun clarified that she directly told President Buhari about the situation and her plan to file a lawsuit, emphasizing that she could not continue in office while challenging the government.
“In finance, nobody quit, but I did. Why did I step down? I visited the president on the day of my resignation. “I’ll go to court to clear my name, but I have to go, Mr. President,” she responded.
She claims that Buhari backed her choice and cautioned against jeopardizing one’s image in order to hold political power.
“I firmly believe in you,” he added. For our children and grandkids, these names are rented, correct? They will inherit them, according to Adeosun.
“And then you ruin your reputation because you wish to continue serving as a minister. And for what?
Adeosun insisted that resigning was the only morally acceptable course of action and went on to sue the Federal Government after stepping down.
“The federal government was sued by me. You cannot remain in government while suing the government. You can’t. You must depart. It’s the correct thing to do, in my opinion,” she continued.
A Federal High Court in Abuja decided in July 2021 that because of the NYSC certificate issue, Adeosun could not be penalized or have her employment forfeited.
According to Justice Taiwo Taiwo, Adeosun was not required to show a NYSC certificate in order to be eligible to occupy public office in Nigeria. On the claim that the certificate in question was falsified, the court did not issue a ruling.
