Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria, stated on Friday that if Nigerians believe their government is failing to protect them, they are free to look for assistance abroad.
Additionally, he stated that no one should commit a crime and evade prosecution in the modern era of technology, adding, “You can take them out.”
Speaking at the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar in Dwei-Du, Jos South LGA, Plateau State, Obasanjo made this claim at the Plateau Unity Christmas and Praise Festival.
“I think that’s absurd,” he remarked. They are murdering us. We Nigerians are being murdered regardless of our religion, nationality, or occupation, and it appears that our government is powerless to stop it.
“The global community includes us. We have the right to ask the world community to help us when our government is unable to. The government must intervene if we are being killed.
“At all levels, we should ask the government to fulfill its obligations. He insisted that we should expect our leaders to fulfill their responsibilities at all levels and in all spheres of life.
“In these days of technology, there should be nobody hiding anywhere after he has committed a crime that cannot be seen with the present day satellite,” he said.
“Before I left government, I knew we had the capacity to pick up anybody in Nigeria,” Obasanjo remarked, recalling his tenure as president. We lacked the ability to take up such a criminal without traveling by air or land once we had located and recognized him. We are now able to use drones. They can be removed. What prevents us from doing that?
“Why are we in a negotiation? And now that the government has compensated these crooks, it denies!
“We ought to urge our government to take the necessary steps to prevent the murder of Nigerians.
“Whether they are Christians, Muslims, or pagans, we want to kill Nigerians because we are sick of being killed and we value every Nigerian’s life.” He emphasized that it ought to end.
