Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has praised President Bola Tinubu for reiterating the ageless spirit of the Magna Carta and asked him to vigorously enforce the idea, as he patriotically stated at the Nigerian Judges’ Conference.
Clause 40 of the 1215 Magna Carta, which the President emphasized, is still one of the most revered pillars of the rule of law, Okechukwu said in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
“To no one will we sell, to no one will we deny or delay right or justice,” the phrase reads.
He underlined that this idea, which guarantees that justice is equitable, accessible, and never reliant on riches, power, or royal favor, continues to be the worldwide benchmark for the rule of law.
Okechukwu praised President Tinubu for his candid comments at the Judges’ Conference, in which he publicly addressed the public’s concerns over the Nigerian legal system’s delays, integrity issues, and access to justice.
“We must acknowledge, with candor, that public perception of the judicial process has not always been favorable,” the President stated. People have voiced their dissatisfaction with delays, worries about honesty, and unease about getting justice.
It is impossible to disregard these perceptions, whether they are entirely warranted or not. They urge us to take stock, make changes, and make amends.
“In the end, justice is for the people, not the Bench or the Bar. Their trust in the legal system is the cornerstone of the stability of our country.
Okechukwu claims that the fundamental pillars of judicial modernization, capacity building, reforms, and regeneration have already been initiated by President Tinubu.
“A decisive combination of discipline, a relentless war against corruption, welfare for the masses, and deep, consistent implementation of the President’s vision is now required,” he stated.
