“Onanuga Defends Tinubu’s Cash Gift to Super Falcons, Calls Nigerians Unappreciative”
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokeswoman, defended his principle, President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday for lavishing cash gifts and other stuff on the Super Falcons after they won the most recent Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Recall that after winning the WAFCON competition in Morocco, the Falcons and their coaching staff arrived back in Abuja on Monday.
When they returned, they went to the State House in Abuja and gave the trophy to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and President Tinubu.
President Tinubu presented the National Honors of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) to the winning Super Falcons during the reception honoring them for winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) competition.
In addition, Tinubu gave each of the 24 Super Falcons players a three-bedroom apartment and a $100,000 cash award. The technical team also received $50,000 each.
Even though many Nigerians struggle with hunger and hardship, some internet users turned to social media to criticize the gesture, claiming the funds might have been used more effectively.

Onanuga addressed the complaints that followed the President’s generosity to the ladies, claiming that Tinubu only gave rewards for hard work, innovation, excellence, soccer skill, and the unwavering Nigerian spirit.
He maintained that Nigerians who doubt the President’s gift to the Falcons are merely being unappreciative, given that the Big Brother reality program might award its winner with a grand prize of up to ₦150 million.
“You wonder why some Nigerians are not grateful for President Tinubu’s gifts to the Super Falcons when you consider that Multichoice, the organization behind the BBNaija reality show, is awarding the winner a grand prize of ₦150 million. On his 𝕏 account, he stated, “President Tinubu has rewarded excellence, creativity, hard work, soccer artistry, and the undying Nigerian spirit.”
