On Tuesday, the Ondo State Police Command announced that three people had been taken into custody in relation to the disappearance of a newborn baby’s placenta from a medical facility.
The suspects included a nurse, a health assistant, and a security guard, according to the police. However, the suspects’ true identities had not been made public.
According to reports, the suspects are state employees who are employed at the Emure Ile Comprehensive Health Centre in the state’s Owo Local Government Area.
It was learned that the victim’s worried family member alerted authorities when hospital staff failed to give them the placenta after the baby was delivered five days prior.
The baby’s father, Mr. Tunde Ijanusi, 23, who is 23 years old, said they were concerned because the medical staff had not given them their newborn baby’s placenta.
He stated, “The placenta was not given to us by the medical personnel who attended the delivery on June 15, 2023, at the comprehensive health centre in Emure Ile. The situation worries us greatly.
The concerned father urged taking the necessary steps to guarantee that the suspects receive justice.
Mrs Funmilayo Ijanusi, the baby’s paternal grandmother, said hospital staff claimed that a dog had entered the building and taken the placenta.
She continued by saying that hospital staff had also been attempting to convince the family to move on from the situation.
An investigation into the matter, according to the state’s public relations officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, is ongoing.
While the investigation is ongoing, the nurse, health assistant, and security officer are already here, according to the PPRO.
