Prince Olagoke Owoyomi has been appointed the new Obajio of Ife with the approval of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife.
On behalf of Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Otunba Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs, revealed this in a statement released on Wednesday.
Three eligible princes from the royal families of Alayo and Bamidein participated in a transparent screening procedure that led to the appointment, according to the Ooni.
Prince Owoyomi, a farmer and businessman from Moore, Ile-Ife’s Alayo reigning dynasty, was chosen following what the monarch called a difficult selection procedure.

According to the statement, “a five-member committee was established by the Ooni-in-Council to thoroughly screen the three contenders prior to the final decision being made.”
Prince Olagbenga Owoyomi and Prince Kola Ogunrinola, both members of the governing Bamidein house, were the other candidates.
Prince Olagoke Owoyomi was appointed, according to Oba Ogunwusi, in honor of his moral character, devotion to cultural traditions, and community service.
In the formal appointment letter, the king said, “As the Ejio of Ife, you are expected to uphold the dignity of the title, serve with loyalty, wisdom, and humility, and contribute to the unity, peace, and progress of Ile-Ife and her people.”
In accordance with palace procedures and customary ceremonies, the palace affirmed that information about Prince Owoyomi’s installation and formal presentation will be shared when it becomes available.
The most recent event is another phase in Ooni’s ongoing attempts to fortify established institutions and guarantee that capable leaders assume positions in the formerly Yoruba kingdom of Ife.
