Paul Onuachu Named Turkish Super Lig Player of the Month for October, as Osimhen Eyes New Record
Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Paul Onuachu has been chosen the Turkish Super Lig Player of the Month for October following his great performances for Trabzonspor.
Paul Onuachu was in good form during the month, scoring two goals and providing an assist in three league games. His services helped Trabzonspor stay unbeaten with two victories and a tie.
Onuachu saw off competition from eight other nominees, including Rafa Silva, Andre Onana, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, Orkun Kokcu, Ederson Moraes, Wilfred Singo, and Davinson Sanchez. The winner was determined through fan voting.
It has been a great season so far for the 31-year-old, who has also picked up the Goal of the Month title twice already. Onuachu has found the net seven times and supplied one assist in 11 league outings for the Black Sea Storm.
Osimhen Chases Obafemi Martins’ European Goal Record Ahead of Ajax Clash Victor Osimhen is on the brink of equalling Obafemi Martins’ record as Nigeria’s highest scorer in European tournaments when Galatasaray face Ajax in the UEFA Champions League at the Johan Cruyff Arena tonight.
Martins, who starred for Inter Milan during his playing days, currently holds the record with 23 goals in European club tournaments. Osimhen, who has scored 22 goals so far in Europe, needs just one to draw level with the former Super Eagles attacker.
The Galatasaray striker has netted 12 goals in the Champions League and 10 in the Europa League during his periods with Lille, Napoli, and now the Turkish champions.
A goal against Ajax would see Osimhen match Martins’ record, while two goals would make him Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in European club football.
It was said that the 26-year-old Nigeria international has been in blazing form, lately becoming the first Galatasaray player ever to score in eight successive European matches after his brace in the 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in October.
