PDP NWC holds emergency meeting in Abuja over defection
An emergency meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee has begun at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The discussion, which is now taking place behind closed doors on Tuesday, comes amid the PDP’s continued internal problems and a wave of defections that have swept through the opposition party’s ranks and strongholds.
According to reports, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Ifeanyi Okowa, the former vice presidential candidate for the PDP, switched to the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, last week.
After a closed-door meeting in Asaba, Monday Onyeme, the deputy governor, state commissioners, local government chairmen, and the state’s grassroots political apparatus reportedly joined the APC, shattering the opposition party’s structure in Delta State.
