Police and NSCDC Rekindle Rivalry in 5th Ogun SWAN Security Cup Final
At the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, officers from the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, will rekindle their rivalry on Friday in the fifth edition of the Ogun SWAN Security Cup final.
In the semi-final matches held on Monday at the same location, Police Machine defeated the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) 5-1 on their way to the final, while NSCDC defeated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) squad by a single goal.
Remember how NSCDC won the first yearly competition in 2021, defeating Police Machine 1 to 0.
The police officers won the ₦0.5 million prize money as the third edition champions in 2023 after defeating the NSCDC officials 2-1 in the final.
By defeating Civil Defence 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the semi-final of 2024, Police Machine maintained their supremacy over their bitter foe.
Police Machine defeated NSCDC 4-3 in an exciting group-stage match on Matchday 1 of this year’s championship, demonstrating their tenacity and supremacy.
To go to the semi-finals, the overwhelming police officers defeated the Ogun State Fire Service firefighters 2-1.
Police overcame the FRSC’s mounted blockade in the semi-final match by a score of 5 to 0 to advance to the final against NSCDC, who had already defeated EFCC 1-0 in the second semi-final match.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ogun State chapter is hosting the annual football competition, and the final is scheduled for this Friday at 2:00 p.m.
