Senator Abaribe Highlights Major Flaws In Nigeria’s Electoral System

Enyinnaya Abaribe, the senator from Abia South, has disclosed that the courts’ interpretation of the law, rather than the technology, is the issue with Nigeria’s electoral system.

He was making the case that the Nigerian judiciary has not kept up with the technological advancements brought about by INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC].

During the Anthena Center’s review of INEC’s election technology innovation from 2015 to 2025 in Abuja on Monday, he revealed this information.

“I don’t believe anyone is opposed to innovation that will make the process better. If anyone, it’s not Enyinnaya Abaribe.

In actuality, I benefit from the new INEC procedure that transmits findings directly. Our judicial systems are years behind the technologies we are putting into place, which is the main issue we need to examine, but most people aren’t listening,” he remarked.

The courts frequently ignore INEC instructions, which ought to be a part of the election legislation, he claims.
