Human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore met with his brother, Emmanuel Kanu, and his attorney, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, at Kuje Prison on Wednesday.
Ejimakor, Emmanuel, Barrister Wisdom Okere, and other individuals were reportedly taken into custody on Monday during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration in Abuja.
After that, they were held at the Kuje Prison.
Sowore verified meeting with the captives and said they are “all in high spirits” in an update released on Wednesday.
Sowore stated that all hands are on deck to ensure their release shortly in a post on his Facebook page.
He wrote: “Today, we had a fruitful meeting with Nnamdi Kanu’s attorney, Barrister @AloyEjimakor, his brother, Emmanuel Kanu, Barr. Wisdom Okere, and ten other people who were brutally attacked and arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for taking part in a peaceful #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration at Kuje Prison.”
They all have a positive attitude despite the difficulties they encounter as we work to secure their release so that we can go on the struggle against oppression.
“Unfortunately, after we parted ways on Monday, the @FCT_PoliceNG Command severely used tear gas on them inside their property before holding them at the infamous #SARS Abattoir, further mistreating them.”
Sowore criticized Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his “irresponsible leadership,” calling the development “highly condemnable.”
