The current protest by Nigerian nurses has not been halted, according to the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
According to reports, Ali Pate, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, informed reporters in Abuja on Friday that the nurses had called off their warning strike following talks with government officials.
Nonetheless, NANNM’s leadership has declared that the industrial action is still in effect.

The nurses, who started a seven-day warning strike on Wednesday, are calling for better working conditions, payment of unpaid allowances, personnel shortage resolution, and higher compensation.
They took action after giving the federal government a 15-day warning.
NANNM’s leadership stated that no definitive decision has been made to stop the strike, and that it can only be called off through appropriate internal procedures, despite the health minister’s statement.
Morakinyo Rilwan, the National Chairman of the Association, stated: “The Minister could cancel the strike if he was the one who planned it. In my opinion, the association-organized strike is still going on. The Minister lacks the ability to cancel the strike because he did not plan it.
“If it is to be called off at all, there are procedures to follow.”
