Supreme Court Affirm Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi Governors Elections.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeals filed against the elections of Governors Muhammad Yahaya, Uba Sani and Nasir Idris of Gomber, Kaduna and Kebbi, respectively.

The court dismissed the appeals and upheld the elections of the governors.

In a lead judgment
by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court unanimously dismissed an appeal by Jibrin Barde of the People’s Democratic Party, challenging the March 18, 2023, election of Governor Yahaya.

The panel held that Barde’s appeal was incompetent and liable to be dismissed.

Consequently, the apex court affirmed the decision of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, which had in November 2023, upheld the election of Yahaya as Governor of Gombe State.

In the case of Kaduna state governor,
the Apex Court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, Abuja which set aside the decision of the Kaduna governorship election tribunal sacking Sani and declaring the governorship election in the state as inconclusive.

Delivering the lead Judgement, Justice Tijani Abubakar dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit.

The court also affirmed the election of Governor Idris of Kebbi State.

The Apex Court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, Abuja dismissing the appeal filed by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Aminu Bande challenging the victory of at the March 18 governorship election.

Delivering the Lead Judgement, Justice Abba Aji dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit.
